Best Sports Movie Ever???

Well, Thanksgiving is just around the corner and while the majority of my Turkey Day is taken up watching football, sometimes I do like to rent a stack of movies for Friday and veg out.

I have been debating about what movies to rent, I think I have seen most of the new releases...at least the ones I wanted to watch so I need something different. My first thought was sports movies.

What is your all time favorite sports movie? I would have to say mine is "Hoosiers". Not by choice, it is one of my mother's favorite movies and I was forced to watch it at least 1000 times. It is a great movie though. Here is my top 10 list...

1. Hoosiers
2. Rocky
3. Bull Durham
4. Rudy
5. Caddyshack
6. Raging Bull
7. Field of Dreams
8. The Natural
9. Remember the Titans
10. Miracle

My top ten list contains a lot of the movies you have listed, but in a different order.

1. Field of Dreams
2. Rudy
3. Hoosiers
4. Raging Bull
5. Miracle
6. Cinderella Man
7. Rocky
8. Major League
9. Caddyshack
10. A League of Their Own

Of course, the problem with listing a top ten list of sports movies is there are so many great ones that you are bound to leave one or two off that deserve to be listed.

Very true, I left off A League of Their Own and I love that movie too. Cinderella Man was awesome as well.
Thanks for the list!

I think the only sports movie that I heard is very good that I have not seen would be Brian's Song. And the only reason I have not watched it is because I heard all you do is cry through the movie. Not really in that kind of mood over Thanksgiving...

Agree with the others, the list you have is filled with great ones. There is one, if you are looking for a sleeper, to check out. I don't know if you can rent it anywhere, but you can buy it on Amazon for about 20 bucks. It is called Perfect Effort. It isn't really a movie, but it is a documentary about a high school in California that had a 13 year undefeated streak. I believe MLB pitcher Dontrelle Willis played there, Maurice Jones-Drew was another.

This about as emotional of a DVD as you will ever see, because it was filmed during the streak. The highs and lows of playing sloppy, coaches lecturing and getting mad. Very real movie that shows how emotional football can be to high school kids. Youtube has several trailers on it, just search "perfect effort trailer" there is one about 4 minutes long, it is the best one.

Don't miss "Hoop Dreams". Documentary shot in 1994 about 2 high school kids in Chicago and their dream of making it to the NBA.

Tim,
I have not seen that documentary but it sounds really interesting. I wrote it down...thanks for that!
