Cubs Sign Dempster To 4 Years Too Many

Am I missing something here? Ryan Dempster had one good year and gets a 4 year $52 million dollar contract from the Cubs. If the team that I lovingly refer to as my stupid bastard Cubbies want to spend some money, then sign Jake Peavy for shit sake! If that is not enough money, go buy someone else to go along with him. I am down with letting Kerry Wood go, it is about time that happened...but to sign this guy to this big of a deal???? No way.

Goodbye Kerry Wood

With the Cubs signing Kevin Gregg yesterday, they made it perfectly clear that Kerry's services or lack of services are no longer needed. Kerry this is for you buddy...

Goodbye Kerry Wood (sung to Goodbye Norma Jean)

Goodbye Kerry Wood

Though I never knew you at all

You ruined my team with your injuries

While those around you worked

Injuries crawled out of the woodwork

And they whispered into your brain

You fell off your treadmill

And onto the DL once again.

And it seems to me you wasted your career

Like a fart in the wind

Never knowing who to run to

When an injury set in

And I would have liked to love you

But I was just a fan

Your career burned out long before

You ever did anything.

Goodbye Kerry Wood

The Cubs Blow It AGAIN!

I really don't want to talk about this too much this morning because I am honestly sick about this. Not only were the Cubs swept by the Dodgers but we were outscored 20-6! It wasn't even close!

I don't want to talk about next year. I am tired of putting all my hope in next year's team. It was supposed to be THIS year! We kicked ass all season long just to get swept??? I am beyond frustrated. I have gathered all my Cubs crap and I am seriously considering having a huge bonfire tonight before the Steelers game.

I hate people who switch teams every season but I am almost to that point. I may have to start loving Boston because at least they are in it every year and don't get swept in the 1st round. Or maybe the Royals, because at least I know every season they have no shot at doing anything. I think that would be easier to deal with.

Ok, I am done. Goodbye baseball season. It is over for me now. I could care less who wins the World Series. I will now focus on my Steelers. See ya in the spring!

The Cubs Are Breaking My Heart

OH MY GOD! Did they seriously just lose two games at home??? Not only lose but get slaughtered! I am in such a depression I could hardly drag myself to work today. But I am here, blogging from work. Wonder how long it will be before I get fired for blogging at work???? Do I really care??? Ahhhhhhhhhh I am sooooooooooo depressed.
I realize the Cub players have the weight of the world on their shoulders but come on! I am hoping that maybe a trip to LA will take some pressure off and they will tie up the series. I still have a little hope left, but not much.

Cubs Lose First Game in Series, Let the Crying Begin

Let the tears begin, not tears of joy this time, but tears of sadness. The Cubs blew it tonight. They started hot with a 2-0 lead and then gave up a grand slam home run and that was pretty much it.

It is very important to win the 1st game of the series playoffs, the team that wins the first game of the series goes on to win it outright 85% of the time (ESPN.com). Um, that is just not good news. I feel sick right now.

I don't know how much more I can give to this franchise. I had on my Cubs bracelet, hat, t-shirt and Cubbie blue underwear. I cheered as much as humanly possible. I feel drained and it is only game 1. If they lose this series I am not sure I will recover. I am so tired of saying, "well there is always next year."

I won't give up on them just yet, there are possibly still 4 more games to be played. Gotta keep the faith for now, but I have to admit I am starting to lose it.

Chicago Cubs: Our Time Is Now

We have waited too long for this. We have suffered so many times. I know sometimes admitting that I am a Cubs fan is a hard thing to do.

The baseball playoffs begin for the Cubs tomorrow. They will be playing against the LA Dodgers. I love our chance in this series and as always, I will hope and pray we make it to the World Series and win it. I cannot express to you my desire for the Cubs to win a championship.

There is something about sports that makes me cry. Seriously, I could watch "Beaches", "Steel Magnolias" and "Terms of Endearment" and not even have watery eyes. But if I see something great achieved in sports, I bawl like a baby. Steelers win the Superbowl in 2006, I bawled in front of an entire room of people. They left very quickly. Michael Phelps breaks the record for most gold medals in an Olympics, yep, I cried. I can't really explain it and I wish I could stop it but I cannot. I can only imagine the tears I have saved up for the when the Cubs finally win a World Series. It might just cause a flood.

Are you ready Cubs fans?? I know I am. Let's make this year our year, let's jump up and down for joy when they do it because it could just be the last time we see it happen ever again. Get your tissues ready!

Holy Moly! Cubs Clinch Division!

The Chicago Cubs have clinched the NL Central division today with a victory over the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 5-4.

Ted Lilly gets the big win today and Kerry Wood racks up another save.

One step closer to this year being our year to win it all. I said this last year as well after they clinched but you gotta have faith right???

Too Early To Count on Cubs in World Series

Carlos Zambrano pitched a no-hitter on Sunday night. The first no-hitter pitched by a Cub since 1972. While this is an exciting thing for Cubs fans, I am still holding my breath. It seems like everyone feels after that there is no stopping the Cubs from winning a World Series championship. There is still a long road ahead and I will just continue to hold my breath and pray that Bartman doesn't come out of his cave and ruin things. I hate to be a pessimist but I have been saying, "this is our year" for about twenty years now.

Let's put the champagne on hold for now...

Wood Lands on DL AGAIN!

That's right Lou! Our boy Kerry Wood is on the disabled list once again. This time for a blister on his throwing hand. Wood has not pitched since July 11th.

Now I have had a few blisters in my time and none were quite serious enough for me to miss any time off my job. I have heard all the folks say that it is quite a serious injury because it could get infected and develop into a bigger problem. Give me a break! He pitches one inning max occasionally. He is not needed every single night! What kind of doctors and trainers are working on this? Have they not heard of Neosporin?????

What is going on with the players nowadays? Does anyone remember George Brett playing with hemorrhoid pain in the 1980 World Series? He got though 6 innings of game 2 and had to have surgery on them the next day. In game 3 he was playing! And he hit a home run! Baseball needs a few more warriors like Brett.

So for now, I have hung up my Wood jersey in my closest, along with my Mark Prior jersey that is useless since he went to San Diego. I got on Ebay tonight and ordered up an Alfonso Soriano jersey. He just got off the DL so it should be wearable for at least a month or so. I hope!

Letter to God

Dear God,

How are you doing? I am sure you are plenty busy and I really try not to bother you too much. I think the last time I wrote you a letter was when I had that terrible rash that I thought might be something else but it turned out to be ok. Thanks for that!

This time, I have a real issue. The Chicago Cubs that I love so much (and I am sure you do too) are up for sale. I wrote a blog a few months back encouraging Cub fans from around the world to unite, throw all their loose change in a pot and we all own the Cubbies. I collected a whopping $3.82. So much for that idea.

The bids are in to own the Cubs and I heard that Mark Cuban was one of the bidders. Here is where my next favor comes in God...please, please...I am begging, do not let that man get control of the Cubs. Yes, I know he turned the Mavericks around after buying them in 2000, but the Cubs are already turning around. I know Mr. Cuban has brains and has done very well with his investments but having someone like him as an owner will ruin baseball.

I imagine if he owned the Cubs he would have a chair placed on top of the dugout so he could hop down and argue calls with the umpires whenever he felt like it. Every time the manager goes out to the mound to talk to the pitcher, Cuban will be right behind him to offer the guy his insight. Last but not least, I am sure Albert Pujols would get a good cussing out while walking up to bat during the NLCS.

God, I don't mind Mark Cuban buying a baseball team in Japan or some other country. Or he can own a hockey team...no one cares about hockey.

I mean look at this guy...is this the guy you want buying one of the most beloved baseball franchise's ever???

I know you will do what is best, I put all my faith in you God to keep this lunatic away from my team.
Take care and don't work too hard.
Sincerely,
Chanin
