The Blog Not Written About the Brett Favre Circus

I will not write a blog about the Brett Favre circus. I will not write a blog about the Brett Favre circus. I will not write a blog about the Brett Favre circus. I will not write a blog about the Brett Favre circus. I have too much respect for what the man has accomplished. Oh geez, that slipped. Ok, I will not write a blog about the Brett Favre circus. I will not write a blog about the Brett Favre circus. But he is being such a putz, I mean really. Stop it! I will not write a blog about the Brett Favre circus. I will not write a blog about the Brett Favre circus. I will not write a blog about the Brett Favre circus. Did you hear the Packers tried to give him $20 million to go away???? Ahhhhhhh!!! I will not write a blog about the Brett Favre circus. I will not write a blog about the Brett Favre circus. I will not write a blog about the Brett Favre circus. What about that poor bastard Aaron Rodgers??? The pressure to perform has just gotten a million times worse. Ha! That was about Aaron Rodgers, not Brett Favre. I will not write a blog about the Brett Favre circus. I will not write a blog about the Brett Favre circus. Is there not a college in Mississippi that needs wide receivers worked out, why a high school? I will not write a blog about the Brett Favre circus. I will not write a blog about the Brett Favre circus. Is his agent's name really Bus??? What is that short for??? No wonder he can't get a trade worked out. It stands for SHORT BUS. Oh boy, did I really just say that???? Well at least I did not write a blog about the Brett Favre circus. Yea for me!

CC Sabathia: Class Act

CC Sabathia bought an ad in Cleveland's daily newspaper, "The Plain Dealer" to thank the fans of Cleveland for the years of support during his career there.

"Thank you for 10 great years ... You've touched our lives with your kindness, love and generosity. We are forever grateful! It's been a privilege and an honor!" read the ad, signed by CC, his wife Amber and the Sabathia family.

The ad cost CC $12,870! In an era when professional players are paid millions of dollars and we the fans support our favorite players through it all, it is nice to see one finally give back. I mean how many folks bought up the Kobe Bryant number 8 jersey just to turn around and have to buy the number 24 jersey??? Do I dare mention the $300 authentic Mark Prior Cubs jersey that I never even got to take the tags off of???? Or now with the Manny trade, all Manny fans will have to go get the new Dodgers jersey and throw the Red Sox jersey in the back of the closet or go out and buy a Pedoria jersey. The games we attend, the autographs we collect, the jerseys we buy...

Finally it seems, someone gets it. Thanks CC for being such a classy guy and a great pitcher.

Now excuse, me while I head to Ebay to buy up a CC autographed ball.

Wood Lands on DL AGAIN!

That's right Lou! Our boy Kerry Wood is on the disabled list once again. This time for a blister on his throwing hand. Wood has not pitched since July 11th.

Now I have had a few blisters in my time and none were quite serious enough for me to miss any time off my job. I have heard all the folks say that it is quite a serious injury because it could get infected and develop into a bigger problem. Give me a break! He pitches one inning max occasionally. He is not needed every single night! What kind of doctors and trainers are working on this? Have they not heard of Neosporin?????

What is going on with the players nowadays? Does anyone remember George Brett playing with hemorrhoid pain in the 1980 World Series? He got though 6 innings of game 2 and had to have surgery on them the next day. In game 3 he was playing! And he hit a home run! Baseball needs a few more warriors like Brett.

So for now, I have hung up my Wood jersey in my closest, along with my Mark Prior jersey that is useless since he went to San Diego. I got on Ebay tonight and ordered up an Alfonso Soriano jersey. He just got off the DL so it should be wearable for at least a month or so. I hope!

Shockey Traded to the New Orleans Saints

Jeremy Shockey finally got his wishes granted and has been traded
to the New Orleans Saints for a 2nd and 5th round draft pick in 2009.

I think this makes the New Orleans Saint's offense a little better than it was before. The Saints still do not have a clear number two starting wide receiver. If they had another veteran wide receiver on the other side of Colston then watch out. But they don't and they won't so I don't look for this to make the Saints offense unstoppable.

Too bad the Saints won't be playing the Giants this year, that might be fun to watch. I am so ready for football season!

Letter to God

Dear God,

How are you doing? I am sure you are plenty busy and I really try not to bother you too much. I think the last time I wrote you a letter was when I had that terrible rash that I thought might be something else but it turned out to be ok. Thanks for that!

This time, I have a real issue. The Chicago Cubs that I love so much (and I am sure you do too) are up for sale. I wrote a blog a few months back encouraging Cub fans from around the world to unite, throw all their loose change in a pot and we all own the Cubbies. I collected a whopping $3.82. So much for that idea.

The bids are in to own the Cubs and I heard that Mark Cuban was one of the bidders. Here is where my next favor comes in God...please, please...I am begging, do not let that man get control of the Cubs. Yes, I know he turned the Mavericks around after buying them in 2000, but the Cubs are already turning around. I know Mr. Cuban has brains and has done very well with his investments but having someone like him as an owner will ruin baseball.

I imagine if he owned the Cubs he would have a chair placed on top of the dugout so he could hop down and argue calls with the umpires whenever he felt like it. Every time the manager goes out to the mound to talk to the pitcher, Cuban will be right behind him to offer the guy his insight. Last but not least, I am sure Albert Pujols would get a good cussing out while walking up to bat during the NLCS.

God, I don't mind Mark Cuban buying a baseball team in Japan or some other country. Or he can own a hockey team...no one cares about hockey.

I mean look at this guy...is this the guy you want buying one of the most beloved baseball franchise's ever???

I know you will do what is best, I put all my faith in you God to keep this lunatic away from my team.
Take care and don't work too hard.
Sincerely,
Chanin

Gina Carano: Knockout Queen

Meet Gina Carano. Oh, she may look beautiful and sweet, but she will knock you on your ass. After she knocks you on your ass, she will mount you and show you what the term "ground and pound" really means.

Gina is the most successful female MMA fighter to date. She is 6-0, 3 wins by knockout and 1 by submission. As successful as she is in the MMA circuit, most know her as playing American Gladiator "Crush". She is equally as successful on Gladiator, being undefeated in several events against the contenders. A couple of weeks ago, I watched her tackle a 52 year old woman trying to run the "Pyramid", she hit her so hard, I am shocked the woman could even make it to the next event.

After watching all of Gina's fights, I thought maybe this is something I could get into. For some reason, beating people up seemed appealing. I ran out to the local sports store and grabbed up some training gloves and sparring mitts. After trying to convince several friends to let me try to hit them, I finally found one who said yes (thank you Joyce). Um, well, I lasted about 2 minutes of circling and throwing punches. Seems it is much more difficult than it looks. Several times I hit the mitts and thought I had broken my hand. I am thinking now, maybe I should have read some sort of instruction manual before attempting this. But hey, no guts no glory right?

Right. Today I can hardly walk. I am thinking maybe I should have stretched or something, my back hurts terribly. My right hand is bruised and I cannot lift my arms, at all. Seriously. Work was a challenge today and I just sit at a desk most of the day. But I am not giving up! Well today I am. But tomorrow I just might give it another go. Maybe. If I take a few pain killers before I start.

Gina, I have sooooo much more respect for you now. You are my hero!

For those of you who have not been able to catch a Gina Carano fight, I found this highlight video on You Tube. Check it out! Gotta go get some ice now...

Denver Nuggets Trade Away Marcus Camby

The Denver Nuggets have traded away Marcus Camby for a future 2nd round pick in the draft to the Los Angeles Clippers.

As a Nuggets fan, I don't feel good about this at all. Trade away the only defensive star player you have on your team?? The Nuggets are known for all offense and no defense. Now with this trade and losing Eduardo Najera we are pretty much toast next season.

Maybe I am missing something, but this seems like a huge loss for the Denver Nuggets.

Name that NBA Team!

The Seattle Supersonics are moving to Oklahoma City. They are not allowed to use team colors or the Supersonic name. I started wondering what would be a good name for this Oklahoma City team. Here are a few possibilities I came up with:
We all know Oklahoma City has lots of bad weather. So there are the weather choices : Oklahoma City Tornadoes, Oklahoma City Twisters, Oklahoma City Thunder and the Oklahoma City Lightning.
With what they went through with the bombing back in 1995, I like the team name Oklahoma City United. Like the soccer team Manchester United.
They are also known for oil and cowboys: Oklahoma City Gunners, Oklahoma City Ramblers, Oklahoma City Stockaders, Oklahoma City Outlaws and the Oklahoma City Oilers.
Then there is the funny team name: the Oklahoma City Slickers.
Vote on what you think should win as the team name or send me a few team names of your own.

Chicago Cubs Trade for Rich Harden!

The Chicago Cubs just acquired Rich Harden from the A's for four players. If this guy can stay healthy he just might be the pitcher we needed to go with Zambrano and this team will be a serious contender for the World Series. Holy Moly, I can't believe it! Would have preferred Sabathia, but this will work. Rock on Cubbies!

Forrest Griffin vs Rampage Jackson: WTF???

Ok, I love Forrest Griffin. I love his heart, the man does not stop. So of course, when I heard he was going to fight Rampage for the title, I ordered it up on Pay Per View this past weekend. Invited over my MMA buddies, Joyce, Jimmy and William.

I ordered the high definition version so we could see every little detail. A case of beer and two pizzas later, it was time for the big fight. I was so nervous for Forrest that my stomach hurt. I was screaming and yelling and going crazy. Then they announced Forrest as the winner and new champion. I am not really sure how I feel about this. As I said earlier, I love Forrest BUT I wanted him to win it clearly, with either a submission or a knockout. To have it go to a decision was just not good. The fight was so very close. Forrest looked like his face has been smashed into a tree about 1000 times and Rampage looked like he had not been in a fight at all. I don't know about this...I mean to take the belt away from Rampage for a fight that was so close doesn't seem to make any sense to me.

I watched it a 2nd time on Monday night and felt a little bit better about Forrest's win but somewhere in the back of my mind I am wondering if this was a fixed fight. Everyone love's Forrest. He is the underdog we all cheer for. It makes for a great story for him to upset Rampage and take the title but I think it will be interesting when it comes time for him to defend the title. I hope he will be able to squeak out another victory and prove me wrong.
